Welcome to the Aqua Force Learn to Swim Programme

As a Swim England affiliated swimming academy, our lessons are delivered in accordance with the Swim England Learn To Swim Framework Stages 1-7 developing confident and competent swimmers through a “games-led” teaching approach.

As our members progress though the various stages of development not only will they learn that vital life skill of water safety, but also develop skills in all swimming strokes as a solid grounding for those who wish to continue into competitive sport also available within Aqua Force Swimming Academy.

What to Expect

Stage 1; “Learn To Swim”

  • 1 x 30 minute session per week.  £40 for a block of 10 weeks.

Our classes are limited to eight pupils per session in order to benefit from one of the lowest student to teacher ratio’s available locally.

Alongside the appointed adult swim teacher we also endeavour to have an Aqua Force Aquatic helper in the water to provide hands on assistance to those children who may be nervous in the water.  These aquatic helpers are handpicked from our Aqua Force senior competitive squad who will also have completed the ASA Aquatic Helper Certificate.

The aim of Stage 1 is to establish water confidence and safety to enable the child to swim one width of the pool (5 metres).

Stage 2-4; “Improvers”

  • 1 x 30 minute session per week. £45 for a block of 10 weeks

The main aims of Stage 2 – 5 are to develop good basic technique in all four strokes – front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.

Stage 4-8; “Advanced”

  • 2 x 60 minute sessions per week. £40 per month

Stage 6 and 7 are the first stages towards progression into Aqua Force Advanced Squads and is the starting block for our Athlete Development Support Pathway (ADSP), further information is detailed in our Squad information pages for those who want to progress further into swimming as a competitive sport.

Our Classes:

LTS and Improvers Classes take place from 4pm – 4:30pm & 4:30pm – 5pm on Tuesdays at High Tunstall College of Science Swimming Pool.

Inevitably, our classes are very popular and there is a waiting list for LTS places. We advise prospective parents to place their child’s name on the waiting list prior to the minimum age of acceptance which is currently 3 1⁄2 years.  When places become available potential new members will be called from the waiting list for an assessment to allow enrolment into appropriate class for their swimming standard.

Advanced Classes take place from 5pm – 6pm on Tuesdays at High Tunstall College of Science Swimming Pool and 5pm – 6pm on Thursdays at Mill House Leisure Centre
